JUGMK Technical Session (24.12.2008)

Last Wednesday, in the premises of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies, we've had a good technical session in which two presentations were presented in a timespan of about hour and a half.

The presentations:

Alex shared some of his thoughts about the paradigm and mental frame behind the idea of 'one-click development environment'.

The presentation was a mix of experiences, best practices & long-term way of thinking about the setup of a development environment, with the goal to allow new team member who is just arriving on an existing project to just 'plug and play' with the existing team and start coding immediately.

Although the 'one-click' is a metaphor, if there was such a thing it should be wasted on checking out the project from the repository, and everything should be preset, prepared for the new developer to start working instantly.

Here are the presentation slides:

The second presentation, presented by myself, was about a 'hot thing' in the industry right now, Google Web Toolkit.

The presentation along with the rudementary but complete sample project, are intended to give you a good head start into GWT.

Multiple things were covered on a lifecycle of one GWT project, with a introduction of GWT, checklist for starting a new project, demo of the member picker sample project, developing a GWT application, deployment, rich & modulized widget libraries, finishing off with different aspects on GWT.

You can check the slides yourself:

You can checkout the code for the demo application using our jugmk repository using svn+ssh://jug.mk/svnpublic and play around with it.

If you were present on this session, thanks for coming, otherwise, come visit us next time :)

Myself having fun with the 'randomness' of the demo application:

Good audiences always come with a lot of questions:
